A vaguely Victorian era bedroom environment. This is scene #05 from my MFA Thesis Film, Artifact (2021).
This environment took a a couple of months to create, as I was worked on various parts of the film simultaneously. The aim was to create a bedroom that may have been lived in by a low-income person perhaps around the turn of the 20th century. All the modelling was done in Maya, with rendering in Arnold. I created the textures using Substance Painter. It was an interesting exercise of trying to balance visual fidelity with polycount.
The main action of the scene, a comb flies down to a dresser, and the room fills with items as a life is lived. At this point we have been following the metal in the afrocomb throughout the film, and this is a quieter moment where time passes around it.
